Adults Only Beauty
As everybody knows I’m all for a little bit of nipping or tucking, filling or plumping; I think if it’s for maintenance purposes & it makes you feel good, go for it! Obviously there are times when peoples vision becomes distorted & they loose touch with their own face (I’m sure you’ve all seen the Catwoman before) but I truly think – it’s a free world, not everyone is keen on it, but the technology is there if you wish to use it from the age that you feel is appropriate.
Cue my unbridled horror at the news of a ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ Mum (it’s a TV program that documents child Beauty Pagents) who claims to have given her 8 year old Botox injections. What?? My mouth actually physically dropped open.
I’m pretty confident that 99% of the worlds population share my horror at this story. Botox belongs in an adults world, as do tooth bleaching, waxing, and the various other treatments these women subject their children to. A childs beauty is in their innocence, and I suspect this particular mother has not put a thought towards how exposure to these grown up experiences will impact her daughters development & path toward womanhood. Shame.
Now, back to something more lighthearted: it’s also been reported this week that some pundits believe that Vladimir Putin has had some work done.
I love this guy! Have you seen him cavorting shirtless on a horse? Dressed up (in all seriousness) as Russian Rambo? Riding a Harley? Here is a man who is acutely aware of his appearance and is doing his utmost to keep up appearances (and stay macho) as he ages.
He hasn’t personally responded to these claims (and his spokesman said he was ‘not aware’ of any proceedures being done) but I say, fair play to him! If he likes it, then I like it.
Judge for yourself: do you think he’s had something done? Does he look better or worse? Let’s have verdicts people!
Everlasting Botox – is it possible?
Well we’ve all been a bit giddy in the Ethos office this week… why? It’s LAUNCH WEEK!
Announcing… something new, something dazzling and something possibly even a bit controversial…

What?! Has botox changed? Can it really last forever now?
Well, no.

Here’s what you get:
| Unlimited Treatments | Book as often or as little as you like for 1, 2, or 3 areas of wrinkle reducing botox. | |
| From only £25 per week | One flat easy weekly payment means you’ll never be surprised by the bill… because there won’t one! Prices start at £25 per week and cover all your treatments and products. | |
| All inclusive top-ups and adjustments | Unlimited adjustments means you can start off gently, and book in again if it’s not quite how you want it. No more having to “get your money’s worth” and have everything all in one go. | |
| Locations | Multiple locations in and around London. Have your treatment wherever works best for you. | |

Important notes:
- Every person is unique and every treatment is individual so results vary depending on your medical history and skin type.
- Botox is a medical treatment so the quantity and frequency of your treatments will be guided by the advice of your practitioner. They will recommend how often to book in, and how much treatment to have.

My top 5 products Right Now
If you’re looking for a new beauty investment or just a pick-up-on-your-lunch-break product, here are my top 5 right now:
![]() |
Ysl touché éclat – I first bought this many moons ago after hearing countless beauty pages tell me how fab it was, but I have to admit I never understood what all the fuss was about. It’s only now, as I sink slowly into my 30′s and watch my skin sink slowly into my eye sockets, that I understand the hype. If you’re also gathering dark circles under your bottom lashes, Ive got a top tip for you: visit a YSL counter, fein innocence & get the experts to show you how it’s done. |
![]() |
Jessica Phenomen Oil – Jessica are well known for good quality nail products, and this doesn’t disappoint: sold as a nourishing intensive moisturiser, it has a handy dropper for dispensing a drop or two per nail, making sure there’s no wastage & it’s easy to use. A must for DIY mani’s & pedi’s, I keep a bottle on my desk at work for when my nails are looking a little dry. You can grab yours here. |
![]() |
Clinique Turnaround Concentrate – I stumbled across this little beauty in one of my frequent “gift with purchase” splurges, and even in the tiny trial size it was impressive – apply sparingly to your skin & you’ll be amazed at how your skin turns instantly soft. There are other benefits too, such as evening of skin tone & faster healing of blemishes, but my main reason for devotion is how quickly the texture of my skin changes. If you need more convincing, read other reviews here. |

Revlon Skin Matching Make Up – Have you ever bought a foundation after the obligatory ‘test-on-the-back-of-your-hand’, only to get home and find it lies dormant in your top drawer as it’s not quite the right colour? Those days are over with this wonder product! I dont quite know how it works, but to be honest I don’t need to: all I know is I can apply it quickly to my face with fingertips, and within seconds it has blended into my exact skin tone. It has surprisingly good staying power (only a powder or 2 daily to keep the shine away) and is a BARGAIN for under a tenner. Get it at your nearest Revlon stockist. |

Tresemme Dry Shampoo – You’ve probably by now heard of Dry Shampoo, and if you haven’t, where have you been??A quick fix for inbetween washes, you spray it onto your roots, give it a minute then rub in with your fingertips …. And hey presto! Any oily residue accquired overnight will have disappeared. I find this an absolute lifesaver on running-late mornings, I’ve also roadtested every brand going and tresemme’s version is by far the best. If like me you have fine hair, you’ll see it also has those mysterious root-lifting powers we’re always searching for … and If you have thick hair; I am very, very jealous. |
Lagging Workout Tips
As we stutter along towards the end of the summer, it’s all too easy to let routine fall by the wayside and fall out of sync with your workouts. We’re too busy booking last minute trips to the sun, considering our new season purchases, and mulling over just how early is too early to unpack your opaques and cashmere.
But you must keep up your motivation!
If like the PM you have a personal trainer to drag you around Hyde Park every morning, good for you! Keep up the good work!! *slaps you hard twice on the back* If like me you’re stuck with yourself as your motivator, here are a few tips to spruce up your lagging workout.
1. Glam it up like Gwen & don some mirrored aviators when running. Best worn under a hat, you’ll feel like a mean machine & they scream “get out of the way & don’t talk to me!!!”
2. Try The Tracey Anderson Method. Everyone raves about it, and anyone THAT toned gets my vote. (although I’m not sure about the mismatched bikini/underwear look)
3. Mix it up; put yourself out there and plan a fortnight of trying some new sporting activities. There are so many interesting things to do out there now – get out and try one!! Most will have the option of a taster class if you just want to dip your toes in… go for fun things salsa dancing, Zumba, and miltary/park based fitness. (ok, some may be not so fun, but you’ll get firm buns I promise)
4. Try rowing – 1,000 calories an hour?using 84% of my muscles? Yes please!
5. Buy yourself a bike and hit the streets. You wouldn’t catch me on one, but everyone else is doing it so it’s got to be good right? Londonites can make like Boris and try the hire scheme, that way you can test if you want one with or without basket. If you decide to give it a go, please try hard to wear your helmet stylishly. I have not yet seen anyone that can pull it off. And if you can, please email me with photos. I need evidence.
And finally, join the 6am alarm click crew. If your not already an earlybird, haul yourself out of bed this week and I promise you’ll feel the benefits. I often do a morning run across Richmond Bridge, and there’s no denying it’s liberating to have London to myself for half an hour! AND there’s no need to wear those aviators either. You’ll also feel sufficiently smug knowing you’ve burnt 500 calories before most people have a chance to burn their toast.
Tidy up those Talons!
If I was in charge, I’d make a rule that during the summer months any woman that wanted to wear open toed shoes MUST have a pedicure. This may be controversial, but I can’t stand seeing female toes with no polish on them. It makes my skin crawl. I really have a very strong aversion to it. Its like driving past a car crash; I know I’m looking at something horrible, but I just can’t stop staring. Call me shallow, call me feetist, call me whatever you want.*
What prompted this mini rant, was the unwanted appearance of said toes opposite me on the tube yesterday. Well dressed and manicured woman, why? Why didn’t you paint your toes last night?? Sigh.
My reaction reminded me of last year’s BAFTA’s, when while trawling the Who Wore What pages, I had the unfortunate occurrence to come across picture after picture of Kristen Stewart’s unpedicured feet on the red carpet. Shudder. See it them in all their glory here if you dare -

It really only takes a few minutes to put your feet’s proverbial ‘face on’, so don’t be lazy girls, get painting. Here’s my pick of the best colours around right now-

Five Minute Facelift
I’m constantly on the lookout for health & beauty tips, and even I must admit, the amount of new products out there sometimes overwhelms me. So this quick fix got my instant attention: apparently – according to Grazia – the Croydon Facelift is back on the radar!
Made famous in the 90′s by a certain Ms Moss (or do we refer now to Mrs Hince?), the high tight ponytail enjoyed great success, before spiralling downwards to be associated with a different type of society, leaving it firmly on the floor of the Fashion bin.
Due to my aversion to leisurewear and Zone specific beauty tips (no offence Croydonites!) I have hereby renamed it the 5 Minute Facelift.
Fear not about looking like a 90′s throwback or the aforementioned Chav, this seasons Facelift is all about a fresh faced look. (and of course looking 10 years younger!)
For daytime, pull hair into a high tight ponytail, tame any flyaways and secure with a hairtie. Spray your 2011-tail with hairspray then pile on your head in a messy bun, using bobbypins from each angle to secure. Leave a few trailng pieces to soften and voilà! Your daytime facelift is complete.
For a sleek evening look, repeat step one then wrap a small section of hair around the hairband, securing with a small bobbypin.
Not only will you look 10 years younger, but you’ll also avoid looking damp & unkempt in the summer heat. No one likes a sticky neck!
BUT – A few words of warning….
- This is your Fresh-Faced Summer Look so steer clear of heavy make-up, unless of course you’re heading to a nightclub.
- Pair with a blouse/shorts/wedges combo, or for nightime a slim black trouser & heels creates a slick look.
- Try not to wear with a power shoulder, unless you’re The Boss. (or hunting for a promotion)
- Wear with confidence, you look 10 years younger remember?
- Give a wide bearth to any type of leisurewear. No trainers, no tracksuit bottoms. No gym gear. No hoodys.
See last week’s paper for some prime celeb examples of Do’s and Don’ts - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/fashion/beauty/3716267/Croydon-facelift-makes-a-comeback.html
Discounted Botox
ethos medispa weekly wellbeing words…….
Discounted Botox, is it a lesson to be learned?
In these hard economic times it would not be a surprise that many of you have considered looking for cheaper treatments to help cut the costs and yet still maintaining your regular Botox. Is this possible? Is there a way to do it safely?
Well here is a quick guide to help you understand the pitfalls in seeking cheaper treatments and how to find good value Botox administered by experienced and talented aesthetic practitioners, so that you get the most natural look possible.
Here are some guidelines and things to avoid:
Beware clinics offering very low cost Botox
Even though you could be very lucky and get an experienced doctor who visits that particular clinic, you are more likely to be treated by a very inexperienced practitioner or even an unlicensed beauty therapist who isn’t qualified and isn’t legally allowed to administer aesthetic treatments, and as a consequence you may experience unwanted side effects.
Beware watered down Botox.
Botox from Allergan (the manufacturers) comes in a “freeze dried” form, and it has to be reconstituted by mixing it with normal saline. Many smaller clinics, who want to stretch the product that little bit further, may water down the Botox with more than recommended normal saline, in order to be able to treat more patients, thus making more money. Many patients have come to us with many such stories, where they had Botox with almost no results or results which lasted only a few weeks due to the weaker product.
Beware a clinic which advertises for as little as £100!
This may well be just a one off price to entice you to the clinic and there may be many other clauses which you have to fulfil to get this price.
What does Botox cost?
Botox costs on average around £140 per vial per person when we buy it in the industry. This is a little known fact by the general public and many patients have told me in the past that they thought that the cost to us was actually as little as £20 per vial.
The legal info…..
Recent new guidance from the GMC and NMC, the doctors’ and nurses’ regulatory bodies, mean that the practice of “remote prescribing” of Botox has become “unacceptable practice” by any of its members.
To explain briefly, Botox is a prescription drug and it has to be prescribed by a doctor or a Nurse with prescribing privileges. Until this new guidance was published, many nurses would ask doctors to sign batches of Botox prescriptions for a fee, without that doctor ever seeing the patients in person, or ever examining their facial muscles! Hence “remote prescribing”.
This new guidance means that only Doctors or Nurse prescribers are able to administer Botox from now on or will definitely be overseeing any Botox being administered, so if anybody who is not a Doctor or Nurse prescriber is offering Botox to you, check their credentials thoroughly, ask for their qualifications and find out where the Botox came from.
“Rogue” batches of Botox are often ordered by unqualified practitioners from the internet, and this can result in disaster.
Ethos Medispa Practitioners have performed 1000′s of Botox treatments over the years and you can rest assured that you will be getting the best results.
At ethos we believe we give the best possible value for money for treatments, carried out by qualified and talented practitioners, who care about your whole wellbeing.
Happy Valentine’s Day from the ethos medispa team. x

Can we reverse ageing?
An old saying goes, “good skin comes from good genes. We look at ourselves in the mirror and wonder if we would follow our parent’s footsteps, aging gracefully or otherwise.
We are in the era that prevention is better than cure. Research scientist, media, celebrities and simple folk like us have searched the answer to the ultimate question- why do we age?? And can we do anything about it?
Lotions and potions have been manufactured, injectables and lasers have been used, dietary fads have been tried, facial exercises have been raved, weird and wonderful contraptions have been invented and surgery is on the rise to remove the signs and symptoms of ageing.
Retailers even sell chocolate and men’s shaving foam that claims to make you look younger.
In our battle against ageing, researches, cosmoceutical and cosmetic companies have been racing to find the cure to aging? But where do we start? And more importantly, when does it end? Is it possible to go to source of the matter and switch off the time machine? Can we switch off the tap so our youth does not simply drain away without our control??
Maybe we can…. Maybe we can prolong the look and feel of health and vibrancy.
In LA recently was one of the biggest single product launches ever in 50 years of industry history. A new product line called ageLOC that claims to target aging from the ultimate source i.e. the genes sold out $8million worth of products in 3 hours! People were queuing for hours to purchase the product and some people even got hurt in the process.
How does it work? Developed by Nu Skin Anti-aging Research Centre in collaboration with leading scientists, ageLOC science is based on the discovery of internal sources of aging that contribute to an ageing appearance, what Nu Skin calls age-related supermarkers, or specifically Youth Gene Clusters (YGC). YGC are functional groups of genes that regulate how we appear to age. Only ageLOC proprietary science understands how to reset these YGC to their youthful patterns of activity. This revolutionary discovery is based upon Nu Skin’s exclusive collaborations with leading scientist around the globe, millions of dollars in development, and years of combine anti-aging and genetic research.
With this technology, they have formulated the ultimate modern essentials of anti-ageing skin care – ageLOC elements and an extra boost ageLOC Future Serum – powerful, scientifically tested anti-ageing ingredient that stimulates youthful cell renewal by 85% in only 5 days and 150% over time. Future Serum alone have also been shown to stimulate collagen production by 150% and reducing MMP production twofold (MMPs destroy skin structure). Studies have shown 100% of subjects started showing improvements in sign of ageing in just 7 days and 100% showed an improvement in overall appearance, including fine lines, skin smoothness and radiance after 12 weeks use.
Maybe this is just the start, but science has advanced so rapidly that maybe we can start reversing the ageing process and locking in our age.

Did you know…..why we need to be exposed to sunshine everyday?
15 to 20 minutes of sunshine everyday helps your body manufacture vitamin D3. A deficiency in vitamin D3 can result in many conditions including Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Depression, Psoriasis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Kidney Stones and Osteoporosis. Vitamin D3 is believed to play a role in controlling the immune system (possibly reducing one’s risk of cancer), increasing neuro-muscular function and decreasing falls, improving mood, protecting the brain against toxic chemicals, and potentially reducing pain.
Have you tried…. using Hair Spray on your brush?
For the final step of your blow-dry, spray hair spray onto your brush, and run it through your hair from roots to tips. This way, your hair isn’t so plastered and stiff but still holds volume and shine.
